Yoga - The essence of life

As many nations will be celebrating international yoga day, on 21st june. This article will take you through the journey of yoga and many other interesting facts related with it.

Quick history -

  1. Yoga is more than 10,000 years old.

  2. Patanjali is considered as the father of Yoga and his Yoga Sutra are completely dedicated to the knowledge of Yoga.

  3. Though many think of yoga only as a physical exercise where people twist, turn, stretch, and breathe in the most complex ways, but this is half knowledge of yoga only.

 

Derived from the Sanskrit word yuj, Yoga means union of the individual consciousness or soul with the Universal Consciousness or Spirit

Well that's enough of history lesson, lets understand about yoga asanas.

 

Yoga for a healthy life -

 

Exercises and regular practices of other asanas are shown to improve from many health problems such as obesity, high blood pressure, low immunity, posture problems, stress etc.

Basically it's an overall health booster.

 

We hereby discuss top 4 asanas for beginners for overall health benefits.

 

1) Slow neck stretched yoga asana -

 

This particular asana is basically for warming up. One is made to sit in a peaceful environment and neck is rotated slowly to either sides as shown in picture above. 

This asana helps relieve neck muscle of strains and helps in overall relaxation of body.

 

So, always start your yoga asanas from this.

 

2) Tadasana ( mountain pose ) -

One of the best yoga asana, this tadasana helps in relaxing the body and brings flexibility in the body.

This exercise is also recommended for short height people as the exercise has shown to increase height of individuals.

Do it in sets of 3 or 5 to get maximum benefit.

Do it every morning and feel your spine, hands and feet all flexible then ever.

 

 

3) Trikonasana ( The triangle pose ) -

This exercise has many benefits and especially good for pregnant women.

This is basically a stretching exercise and extremely beneficial for all those who are suffering from any kind of stress or anxiety.

One has to touch either opposite or same side of his hand to feet while his spine remains straight to form a triangular position and remain stationary as such.

 

 

4) Kapalbhati - Stomach exercise

 

Kapalbhati pranayama is the most recommended breathing yoga exercise which cures our stomach disorder completely and loses weight.

Practicing 5 minutes kapalbhati pranayama regularly removes the toxins and increases metabolism. It also cures constipation, acidity, diabetes, Asthma and all kinds of Respiratory troubles, sinus and even hair loss.

 

It is very effective in weight loss (mainly belly fats). This is superb yogasana for ever.

International day for yoga

  • It was finally in 2014, December 11 that UN officialy accepted that 21st june of every year will be celebrated as the international day for yoga. Thanks to efforts of our honourable Prime minister- Shri Narendra Modi.

  • This year Lucknow will witness celebration of this day in India.

  • “175 nations, including USA, Canada and China co-sponsored the resolution.” It Had the "highest number of co-sponsors ever for any UNGA Resolution of such nature."

  • Folding of both hands in the logo Symbolise Yoga, the union, which reflects the union of individual Consciousness with that of universal Consciousness, a perfect harmony between mind & body, man & nature; a holistic approach to health & well being.
